Tax return for 2005 - Myths and Reality

Toggle
Hi All,

My Details:
I have paid appox. 12k as tax for 2005
I got married in july 2005 and my husband is also working in germany

I have been sending monthly 1k € to my parents and grandparents.

So, can I claim for the entire 12K?

What is the max. amount that you may claim in a year?

Also, I visited india in july, so can I claim for my air-tickets too?

How to make a claim for double-household? Should I buy a house in India for this?

Any info on these topics will be appreciated.

You can reach me at anitafhm@yahoo.com

Regards,
Anita

Since you are from India (Ländergruppe 4), you could send a max. of 1920 EUR per year to each of your parent, grand-parent, parents' of your spouse and grand-parents' of your spouse. You don't have to send every month. Even quarterly is enough. But should be consistent.

But since your husband is also working here. He can file separately.

If you have a own house in your home country, and your spouse it staying there, and you visit (at least once in every quarter), you could apply for double house. You could apply even otherwise, but the chances are that it would get rejected.

Hi HTH,

Thanks for the info.

Yes, am from India and I have been sending monthly 1000 € to my parents(2 persons) and grandparents(4 persons).
But, I have send the money via online transfer only to my parents account.
My dad's parents stay with my parents.
My parents personally hand over the money every month to my mom's parents who stay in the same town.

So, I would assume 1920 x 6 persons = 11520 €
amount can be got back according to what you have said.

Have I got it right.

Are there some specific documents that I need to submit as proof apart from the Unterhalsbescheinigung?

Also, can I get the Unterhalsbescheinigung attested by a Notary Public?

Regards,
Anita

2. Telephone exp.(local and India)

You could claim a max. of 20% of your monthly telephone bills, mobile bills and internet bills assuming that its used for official purposes (even if you dont have a home office). This ammount (20 % of telephone+mobile+internet) could be a max of 20 EUR per month.

If you are claiming double house, telephone calls, Postal charges etc. to your home country could also be claimed, but under different head.

5. Working room (job purpose)
This can be claimed, only if you are required to work from home. Should be supported by docs. from your company. All expenses arrising from this could be claimed.
* electricity, heating
* table, chair and other furnitures
* computer and other office equipments
* rent paid for the room

Hi,

As for unterhalt, I'm transferring the money to my parents in India through ICICI's money2india netexpress service. When I do this, the Kontoauszug shows that I've transferred money to some bank in Munich or Frankfurt and recipient is ICICI Bank. Could someone explain me, whether it is acceptable by Finanzamt? What one should do in this case? I would be really glad if someone can share his/her experience while dealing with this Unterhalt and Money2India combination.

And finally with unterhaltbescheinigung is any affidativ on stamppaper is required or it alone is sufficient? As in some past threads I read somebody did some affidavit like this.

Even I transfer money through ICICI money2india service. I usually add "Final beneficiary Mr.xxxx. For family maintenance" as the comment.

I submit the "Customers copy" of the transaction (the print-out from the ICICI website), together with the Unterhaltbescheinigung to finanzamt. Never had problems so far (last 5 years).

Unterhaltbescheinigung need not be on stamp paper, nor do you need any affidavit. But make sure it has the signature, date and stamp of the local administrative officer.
