Hello,

How much time does it normally take to receive the German passport after getting the Einbuergerungsurkunde? I remember reading somewhere once that there is a so called "express dienst" or something like that which someone can avail to hasten the delivery of the passport.

Anyone has any ideas about this?

It takes 3-4 days.

Für Expressreisepässe gelten folgende Gebühren:

vor Vollendung des 24. Lebensjahres (32 Seiten) 69,50 €
nach Vollendung des 24. Lebensjahres (32 Seiten) 91,00 €
vor Vollendung des 24. Lebensjahres (48 Seiten) 91,50 €
nach Vollendung des 24. Lebensjahres (48 Seiten) 113,00 €

I got it within 48 hours (applied Tuesday, Passports received Thursday afternoon!!)

Personalausweis takes around 3 weeks time..

I am guessing you applied for the express service?

One question, did you have to do something to formally give up your Indian citizenship? I was under the impression that this is automatic (i.e. they take your Indian passport and take care of the former citizenship renouncement themselves). However, it seems to depend on the nationality of the applicant.

I am Indian as well and am wondering if there is something special that I need to do. The reason that I am panicking is because my whole university plans are contingent upon me getting this passport as soon as possible!

They take your Indian passport before giving you the Urkunde. Rest of the formalities are completed by the german authorities themselves. Take a copy(both hard and soft) of your indian passport. Apply for OCI(takes a month) as soon as you got your DP and then dont have to worry about anything
