I do not know the answer to your question, but I 'googled' a bit and did not find that a language course is a prerequisite, so be careful with the answer of 'indianman' and the 'indianman' should be more careful before he answers in such a way.

I am proud that we kept this website and the forum on a high level for more than 12 years now and I really do not like the way some 'younglings' take part.

 No offence to anyone. But when i answered the question with regards to visa for marriage. I was quite sure and thats the reason i gave a definite answer. I do know that this website is doing a wonderful job and i appreciate the good work but that does not mean one should provide information  just to satisfy somebody. You can of course visit the German consulate website Mumbai and also chennai and see it for yourself if i am wrong. When the question put is not clear and in general, I have to answer it in a general way obvious indeed.

Again i clear my answer. If you are indian and getting married or family reunion with  german or indian national in germany. You must have a A1 german language certificate otherwise getting visa is difficult. However if you are a Masters degree holder and can find work in germany then you may be exempted from this requirement. But that again depends on the consulate whether to exempt you or not. They see what your qualifications are .  whether it has scope for employment in germany . but if you are just a bachelors degree holder then getting visa is diffcult. Further if at the time of applying for visa  you can satisfy the consulate that you have a work contract then you may be exempted from language requirement.

Still further if you are not going to stay in germany permanently then visa might be granted but not sure again it all depends on the consulate as to how they look at your application.. Or if you are suffering from some disability you may be exempted.

This rule applies to all indian nationals wanting to get married in germany irrespective of the fact whether you are going to marry german or non german....

Further if you are a Phd degree holder then you may be exempted or if you are going to pursue Phd and if you can satisfy the consulate at the time of application then you may be exempted but that again is difficult cause you need to have an approval from the University in Germany and Your Phd guide approval too.... So that possibility is rare....

This is the proper information which i have provided ...You can do further research and know it for yourself.... Well whenever i answer questions  its not just by relying on google or other website ...I am quite sure and then i say it....But people take it in an wrong way... labelling "YOUNGLINGS" ... i am new here but certainly not a YOUNGLING and i am quite surprised that experienced people dont know about these true facts.

Information Sheet on German knowledge requirement for a Residence Permit for Family Reunion for Spouses
This information sheet is meant to give some basic information on the new requirements of knowledge of German for the accompanying spouse.
According to § 30 of the Immigration Law a foreign spouse wishing to join his or her partner in Germany is required to be able to speak basic German. The nationality of the spouse living in Germany is of no importance in this regard. The regulation is, therefore, also applicable for spouses wishing to join a German citizen. The new regulation is applicable with immediate effect.
The following applicants are exempted from this requirement:
1) Spouses of refugees, guest scientists, visiting scholars and highly qualified specialists holding an unlimited residence permit according to §19 AufenthG (“Niederlassungserlaubnis”)
2) Spouses of citizens of the EU, Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, Republic of Korea, New Zealand and USA.

3) Spouses of employees of internationally operating companies who are being deputed to Germany on a temporary basis only. This exemption applies on a case-by-case basis only and requires consent by the immigration authority of the place of residence of the spouse in Germany.
4) Spouses who are physically or mentally handicapped or are suffering from any other mental disease or handicap.

All applicants, who do not belong to one of the above mentioned categories have to provide proof of being able to speak basic German at the time of applying for the German Residence Permit. For this purpose a Certificate “Start Deutsch 1 – Level A1” or an equivalent certificate is required. This certificate can best be obtained at any Goethe Institute/Max Müller Bhavan in India.
 
Further on the German Consulate Website Mumbai there is also a category for "THOSE INTENDING TO GET MARRIED IN GERMNAY " Again the above text applies to this case also .....(please read it on their website)

Well thanks for the message but Sir, see the question put by 'indu'..... its not clear no information provided about his/her status whether indian or whatever.... So my answer will also be in general right??...   As she or he  questioned, I answered...... Question is general so my answer will also be general..... ...

Anyways no arguments on that .......but dont mind i had to do it since thats my 'Beruf ' ...answering only what is asked not to provide detailed information without a request or proper specific question.... Ha ha ha !!!
