BE and ALG

Dear all,
I am PhD (Promotion) Student from a non-EU nation studying in Germany with 19 work-hours per week work-contract (Wissenschaftliche Hilfskraft) and my employer pays Rente and Health insurance.

Situation:
Continuous stay in Germany since August 2004 till date
1. As Master Student §16: August 2004 - July 2007.
2. As Wissenschaftliche Hilfskraft (WHK) § 18 (19 work-hours/week, employer pays Rente and Health insurance): August 2007 - August 2008
3. As Promotions-Student with same position as WHK after Immatrikulation § 16 (19 work-hours/ week, employer pays Rente and Health insurance): September 2008 - up to date.

Questions:
a) My next year as promotion-student starting August 2009 may not be funded !
May I get ALG as promotion-student if I lose my work-contract as WHK? If yes, when should I apply for BE (keeping in mind that I need to apply for my promotion-student-visa-extension in July).

b) Even if I get work contract as WHK and continue my Promotion-study, may I apply for BE (so as to be ready for similar situation if any, arises in future).

c) After successfully finishing PhD without BE, if I don’t find the job and apply for one-year-job-search-visa, during this one year, lets say, I get §16 with 90 days/year work permit, may I get ALG. If yes, in this case, when should I apply for BE to be eligible for this ALG.

Replies are thankfully awaited.

To be eligible for ALG, you should have paid ALV. Have a look in your Salary receipt(if at all you get one) if this has been paid. If not you are not eligible

then you're elegible to get ALSI. You need to go to arbeitsamt 3 months prior the end of your current contract (otherwise you risk of loosing 1 month).

Is a PhD/Promoion Student §16 eligible for BE?
May a PhD/Promoion Student §16 get ALG without BE? (ALV-voller beitrag for almost 2 years is paid)
