HI all

Me and my are working as software engineers.
I get a salary of 50K and My Wife get 32K

I have tax class 3 and My wife 5.

Some one said , If we both have TAX class 4. it will be better.

Does any one have any sugegstions.

3 & 4 is better AFAIK. but there is another possibility that if your wife gets lesser than 18K per annum she dont have to pay tax. I have read in trust7 before but i am not so sure

Hi,

3 and 5 or 4 and 4, it doesn't matter.
If I amn't mistaken, to avoid couple take advantage from the 3 and 5 combination, starting from next year, couple with 3 and 5 has to do tax declaration in the end of the year.
So forget it :-)

hi All,

Just re-activating the old thread. At present our family have 3 and 5 tax classes. We would like to change it to 4 and 4 but i heard that its not so easy and one must get it authorised from the Finanzamt, is it correct? Anybody who has experience in it, can please shed some light.

AFAIK you can change the class once in a year. Just pop into to the Burger amt and they should do it for you. dont forget to tax both of your tax cards.

to change tax class to 4 and 4 from 3 and 5 is not a big thing and there are not many hurldles to do so, because, neither it brings in any windfall profits for the taxpayers nor any losses to the government.

4,4 just entitles some more money in the hand ( at the end of each month) but it gets all evened out as soon as you file the returns...

So, u say there is no big difference between 3,5 and 4,4 (because u mean having 3,5 + getting SOME tax returns at year end is same as having 4,4 + getting NO tax reurns at year end).

Did i understand correctly? Please correct me if iam wrong.
