@caligula
Its another word for LEGALISATION (gerichtliche Beglaubigung)

If you married outside Germany, the Standesamt here might send it back to the place where you got married and verify whether it was issued legally.

Hi, me again, I still waiting for your answer to my last question.

Your case sound weird to me.
In my case, I have to provide every document that was asked by standestamt (depend on country, different document may required).
These document has to be legalized (they will tell you what kind of legalization are required -> in my examples: prove of birth (legalized by außen minister, justice minister, then legalized by german embassy in my country of origin).
This document then sent to germany, I paid it to be translated by a translator (special licence required) then I gave these document to standestamt.
Then they start the legal process and brought this to the court. may take 3 months, then I got my married certificate.

You said that Standestamt does legalization for you???

hope this help.

Hello Goldy,

I and my wife registered our married in germany standestamt, but none of us has german nationality.

The procedure that we went through:
1. go to standestamt -> got all info about what documents required and what procedure

2. we prepared and got all the requested documents from each of our own country

3. submit all paper to standestamt (by the way, the lady did ask about my income, but everything is okay).

4. standestamt process our application -> go to court, everything okay

5. standestamt informed us that everything okay,
we went to standestamt to reserve the civil married ceremony time

6. got to standestamt for civil married ceremony

7. got married and all document.

that's it.
Process step 3 - 7, all take about 3 months.
