What decides your residency in Germany if u are a working doctor ?
The Auslaenderbehorde wants to give me paragraph 17 although I do have a work contract and they consider this as a form of training??? is there any way out to the normal Paragraph 18??
Why they are insisting on this ..what is the drawbacks about 17 and what are the Options in Paragraph 18??
Thanx a million

What do you mean by 'working doctor'? I assume this is a Doctoral work (Doktorand). If yes, then you might be given your stay permit according to §17.

If you have purely a job contract, then you should be given according to §18.

Status with §17 - similar to a student
Status with §18 - you can claim many social benefits (e.g. arbeitslos geld, permanent residency etc).
