Hello all,

I am going to graduate in a german university in a month .I got an offer from a company in Sachsen Anhalt,(where I am doing my thesis).my boss wants to pay me 24000Euros.

My boss is ready to help me with regard to work permit processing.

I am worried if 24000euros brutto is sufficient for getting Arbeit Erlaubnis.

Is there any minimum official limit for AE?

Thanks a lot in advance,
Chakri

Well.. Sachsen Anhalt is East-Germany, isn't it ?
You can not really survive with 24.000 Euros here in South.. I am not joking.. If you get social help, it might be even more than that.. and I personally can earn such an amount in my home country too.. why should I work for such a low salary in Germany and live with the stress of being foreigner ?

But for the east, it might be enough.. I have no idea.. but the key point is whether your colleagues and the similar IT workers in that area earn the same amount.. if this is the case then you might have a chance for the work-permit.. otherwise your boss might be just trying to get cheap-labour and this will not be allowed by the german authorities.. (You have to present your work contract to the authorities during work-permit application process)

Regards,

Lacrima

PS: Germany's GDP per capita is 28.700 US Dollars
( http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/rankorder/2004rank.html ) which is more than 24.000 Euros.. so this offer is even less than what an average person(without University degree) earns in Germany..

yes!

you are absolutely right! Sachsen Anhalt is in east germany. Here! some of my german colleagues earn even less than 24000 euros. But none of them have university degree. All the people with university degree and (3-4years)experience earn arround 32000-34000 euros.

There is no one in my firma like me,i.e having university degree and no experience. So I cant compare one to one basis.

My main concern is,Will arbeitsamt accept 24000 euros for foriegner? Here for germans they are accepting.

I would like to know if there is any official cieling for this minimum salary.

Can i take help of lawyer if my visa is denied?or is that case that no lawyer can help me after the visa is denied?

Thank you very much,
Chakri

Chakri,

There is no Green card anymore and therefore you will have every chance to get AE without salary contraints. Unfortunately your salary is below par of any German national so I suggest you join the company on the first place and sign for a permanent contract with probation period counting on and then start looking for jobs in other companies.

good luck!

Does anyone know if there is minimum salary requirement for a NE when one has other requirements covered? What means "Lebensunterhalt gesichert" is in numbers - any definition?

"My main concern is,Will arbeitsamt accept 24000 euros for foriegner? Here for germans they are accepting."

Even if similar IT specialists in that area earn bigger amount:

They will if you can get Alg II without been thrown out of the country. what is written in your residence permit now?

They will as well if your boss has a good friend in Arbeitsamt, but then he should tell you not to worry and do everything himself

"otherwise your boss might be just trying to get cheap-labour ..."

that's for sure, and he uses the current situation on labour market as well. new laws Shröders help him here a lot, just because you can't refuse a job offer anymore because of the low salary and continue to get money from the state. i would not be suprised as well if he decided to pay his taxes mostly in some other country due to such support from SPD and Shröder personally ...

"What means "Lebensunterhalt gesichert" is in numbers - any definition?"

the minimal amount of money that guarantees that you can not pretend on any financial help from the state. this minimal amount of money should be paid on regular basis.

"You can not really survive with 24.000 Euros here in South.."

there are lots of people here in South that earn less than that and do manage to survive ... do you really think that everybody has a university degree or qualification of a master? you should ask people from your own home country how much they earn here ...
