I have 3 questions:

Is it the usual practice that the ABH will keep your Passport when you apply for NE?

Will they issue a Fiktionsbescheinigung in that case?

My current visa is valid for another 3 months, and will the Fiktionsbescheinigung be issued for these 3 months alone, or maybe even more, say 6 months?

1- normally not, but some people says ABH keeps passport.

2- you will Fiktiobescheinigung get in both cases (1).

3- Fiktionbescheinigung will be issued for 3 months from the date of issue.

if it takes longer time for issuance of NE, then you may get your FB extended and you have to be in touch with ABH for extention if needed.

In my case (I got them as many as U want)...they can do what they want.
First time he hold our pass 4 months and at the end he gave me 3 months Funktions. then prolong to 1 year.
But he was such a mess Beamter that he just wanted us to put us a visum to hell.
Second one, was the biggest one.
I went, I ask, he told me what he need, I wait 3 months (probation end), and for 30 min he gave me NE.
Depends from head to head...and they are always diferent
