Hi,
I hold German citizenship.

My wife holds an 'Aufenthaltserlaubnis based on Ehegattenachzug(article 30)' until May'2011.

She has now got a chance to do an MBA in France for one year(Jan'2011-Dec'2011).

My questions:
- Will she have to do the abmeldung?
-Is there any possibility to retain Germany as the family-residence?
-Can she get a letter from Auslandamt or whatever amt that allows her to stay abroad for 1 year, hence allowing her to retain the current status in Germany?

I do not think she will have to do abmeldung if she plan to come back. Your wife has to go to Auslenderamt.It was already discused in forum:

"For those who need to leave Germany temporarily in excess of six months, the six months time frame, however, can be waived. For this the foreigner has to apply at the foreigner’s authority for a prolongment of this 6 month period before leaving"
