I would like to ask about the possibiliy of getting any funding from Govt regarding my new born baby (08.09.2009).
I, my wife both have work permit. (she got arbeit erlaubnis today (15.10.2009)). We both have simple Aufthehalt Erlaubnis.
I have applied for KinderGeld. I got no answer from them yet. I was wondering, whatelse I can do to apply for funding ?
I earn good but my wife does not work at all as she just got the permit.

Is there any way, we can apply for Erziehung or eltern geld ? or anything like similar.

Your wife can apply for elterngeld, which would be 300 Eur/Month for 12 months since she has not worked in the last 12 months.

How much will someone get if she worked for say 18 months and presently not employed but expecting a baby in near future.

I thought 67% is only to those who are employed at the time of child birth.

as i said, she will get it only if she has worked in the last 12 months. The calculation is

67% of (sum of all salaries in last 12 months) / 12.

So if she has not worked in the last 12 months she will get only the basic of 300 Euros.

If she has worked for only 10 months then i think it is like

67 % of (sum of salaries for 10 months) / 12

Do you guys know if there's a minimum duration of time a mother has to work before giving birth in order to be able to get those 67%?

I have 1 more question, in case the mother is on a leave and getting the 67% average of her previous 12 months netto salary. Can the working father change to tax class 3?

if the father changes to tax class 3 then mother will be on tax class 5 (with 67% )

It is advisable to change the Tax class of the partner taking the Elternzeit & Elterngeld to class 3 as soon as the pregnancy is confirmed. That way the 12 months average netto is increased thereby increasing the amount of Elterngeld.
