Advice needed,Had my first Racism experience yesterday

Umschalten
Hi all

It happened yesterday,around 10 pm. I was on a offcial purpose in Dresden. I was walking on a road on the stadmitte, and this guy started
walking behind me. After some time he started saying, "scheise auslander, gehe heim" , and many more nice words. Thanx god tht my German is pretty bad, and I did not understand most other things he said.After some time I was close to a Bus stop, and he retreated. I have lived in Southern Germany many years now and never experiensed or heard anything like thins before. Now, I would like to hav comments/advice from the GCers (specially who are living in East)

1. Is it normal/expected in some parts in East (like Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig etc.) ?
2. Are this people a orginised party/group or only locl rogues?
3. R this only verbal or next time I am in the east I shud also be prepared for any physical encounter also?

4. What is the best to do this cases ? Make a immediate call to Police or avoid them or run): ??
5. What is the Govt./Police policy in this type of harrasements?

Mfg

@akakrim:

First of all, I am sorry that you had to experience this. It certainly is never easy.

I have been in Germany for many years now and have experienced this a couple of times as well. Just remember that these idiots represent a small minority and Germany is very hospitable to foreigners in general.

If you live in Dresden and think that you might be in danger, go to the police, by all means. However, if this is an isolated incident, let it go. Remember, racism is encountered almost everywhere in some form or the other. You cannot run away from it.

These idiots are losers of the first grade. They will end up eventually in the dustbins of history with nothing to show for it.

I take it today is your second day in Germany?

FAQ was certainly an appropriate place to post your query - for me this happens all the time ( and I am a white Canadian )!

Don't worry, these people generally are harmless ( and quite stupid ) and their stupidity is not supported by the general public.

don't take it that easy, they can be stronger if more than one and sure we all know that in the past.

@akakrim

1. Is it normal/expected in some parts in East (like Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig etc.) ?

yes, it is quite normal in eastern part of germany and in eastern europe it is quite high.

2. Are this people a orginised party/group or only locl rogues?

what do you think, when they've their own political party? sure, they are organized and had luck that those guys were not in group. do you know that there were some deaths just quite some months ago?

3. R this only verbal or next time I am in the east I shud also be prepared for any physical encounter also?

yes, sometime it is necessory as well and to be prepared for those issues or at least to run away ;)

4. What is the best to do this cases ? Make a immediate call to Police or avoid them or run): ??

even if you call police? what happens? he's out after few days and be sure then you could land in real trouble.

5. What is the Govt./Police policy in this type of harrasements?

as of now, there is nothing in concrete. even if it gets initiated now, takes decades to comeout as law. best to keep yourself away from east germany (former) and eastern europe.

Hi akakrim,

This year is my 6th years living in Dresden. Matter of facts I have met people like you have met. And one of them living at the same street as I am. He did yelled at me once (he was very drunk) and did the Hitler hand signed. I found it stupid. I met him once a while on the street also, and he is very calm during the day...

Unfortunately eastern Germany do suffers from the Unemploymet crisis and many of them uses have the ideology that their job was taken over from foreigners (if fact it is true to some point).

I dont think these people are harmful if they are alone, and be careful if they are more than 2 (not only eastern Germany, for the west too).

Despite of that, eastern Germany have many nice people, slower life, culture and nature,....

I have lived in germany almost 5 years, half of it in west germany and half of it in dresden.
worst experience is: stood at haltestelle and around 10-12 years old kids shouted and showed F finger in the strassenbahn. Entered a Makelar agent that ignored you and said we don't have offer for you.
not a pleasure experience surely.

1 thing you should remember that 14.02 is the event for the Hittler Kumpe to gather together in Dresden. Your experience probably related with that.

1. Is it normal/expected in some parts in East (like Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig etc.) ?

I feel unpleasent Stare almost everywhere.

2. Are this people a orginised party/group or only locl rogues?

Well in the evening in the neustadt are you can find skinhead everywhere,so open your eyes :-D

3. R this only verbal or next time I am in the east I shud also be prepared for any physical encounter also?

My advice: don't go out too late if it isn't necessary. On other hand, those coward loser won't dare to attack unless in big group.

4. What is the best to do this cases ? Make a immediate call to Police or avoid them or run): ??

run showed weakness, call police: how can you be sure that the police will help you? in case you find a supporter one :-D

5. What is the Govt./Police policy in this type of harrasements?

nothing can be done I believe.

@VP_2004

"run showed weakness, call police:"

well, it may be showing weakness, but
i think it's better to keep distance first before callin police. if the balls are footed-out then you know there is no voice to call police. it's always better to get-away from the fire first then think about police. i guess, you know the last racial attack and the guy got killed? unfortunatly his idea was to call police instead got booted around. so belive in police at the same time there are some guys out there in that department as well.

I meant: look and situation and act respectively of course. Not to be Dumpkopf.

Personally I will avoid such group or event.

that is what exactly i meant too, not to be "Dummkopf"

"Personally I will avoid such group or event."

yes, you are right. but sometime those groups and events comes by itself to us without an invitation then it is unavoidable, so it is better prepared to keep the bottom safe.
