I am a US citizen, was working in Germany through Blue Card. I got my Niederlassungserlaubnis in May 2016. In Dec. 2016 I left the country (also de-registered) after informing the Auslaenderbehoerde that I will be away for a year. I am aware that Blue Card holders have upto a year to stay outside the EU without losing NLE. The reason for me to move away was a career change from the corporate world to the social sector world where I am working with grassroots development organizations. I am currently learning a lot and would eventually like to start a social enterprise in Germay, hence have intentions to return back. However, I believe another year of continued experience will highly benefit me. Do you think the Auslaenderbehoerde will give me another year of extension to stay away from Germany (and EU)? I certainly don't wish to lose the NLE but would like to get trained as much as possible to start something on my own. Please let me know what I can do to convince the Auslaenderbehoerde.
