German Passport for new born baby

Hallo,

We have blessed a baby Girl on 17.07.2011.
I have German Citizenship and my wife has Indian Citizenship.

1. Now i want to apply a Passport for my baby. Today i enquired in ABH, they said to me that my kid will get Kinder Reise Pass. Is it (Kinder Reise Pass) acceptable by Indian Embassy to get OCI card for my kid(as i have OCI card)?
or Shall i apply for Normal German Passport?

2. Validity of kinder reisepass?

3. Which passport shall i take for my kid. I think in my view my kid is eligible for both Passports. But she can get only one because of Laws. if we apply first German passport then she cant get Indian passport and vice versa (Father-German, Mother-Indian).
which one you advice any why? Please share your experience.

Please guide me.
Thank you
Srinu

Apply for normal German Passport. Kinder reisepass is not accepted anymore in some countries.

Take german passport for the kid and apply for OCI.

1. you don't need to go to ABH for that, your Bürgeramt is responsible for that.
2. 6 years
3. it depends on what you want to do, better get the German one if there's no problem for his "future" in India, if that's what you're scared of.

@raj, the Kinderausweis was made only until late 2006 and is not done anymore, now kids get a Kinderreisepass, unless you know something that I don't. And I don't see how a Kinderreisepass would be denied in some countries (except the US, were for only that particular reason, you can request an europapass) as it is a passport for minors, but first of all, a passport. Children are not able to have a "normal" passport until they are 12.

@Nobody

Kinderreisepass is not accepted in all countries.

But atleast in the US consulate websites it is mentioned that Kinderreisepässe issued after 2006 and Kinderausweise are not eligible for visa free travel and need a visa. It is necessary to hold a e-Reisepass for visa free travel. This is from my personal experience and so would suggest to go for the normal e-Pass for the kids aswell to be on the safer side.

I am in similar situation. My recommendation is following:

1. Prefer German citizenship
2. Take normal passport instead of Kinderreisepass because Kinderreisepass cannot be used for US.
3. Both Kinder or normal passport are valid for only 6 years for kids

And yes congratulations....
