Urgent Help needed

I am in the following situation:

My 4 months old son, my wife and I traveled to our home country yesterday.

I have a D-EG my wife a residence permit and my son was entered on my wife's passport by our country's embassy in Germany.

Problem: My son has no separate residence permit on my wife's passport and we didn't know that such a thing was possible or needed until the police at the airport informed us of that and that we will face problems upon our return to Germany unless we find a solution with the German embassy in our home country.

Question: Any idea how we can find a solution to that?

I will be calling the German embassy in my home country on Monday to see if they can offer a solution.
