Hello all,

All NRI men please beware of 498a IPC misuse in India. The trend to find an NRI groom to get daughter married and later extort money from the same family has been increasing.

If you are looking for a girl to get married (especially arrange) be very cautious. Hire professional agency for a thorogh back ground check. Take sign of in-laws that no dowry was exchanged or demanded. Whatever customary gift exchange has taken, make a list according to 1961 to DP3 act.

498a results in ca. 2 lacs arrests in India per annum (2012 data) out of which 1/4 are women. Senior citizens (parents + groom's relatives), unmarried sisters, mothers and even minors are arrested.

There are organized gangs/mafias and crook families especially working to trap NRIs because they are soft-target, considered rich, dont come back once litigation has started and if they do then arrested and passports are impounded.
