Gross domestic product up 0.8% in 1st quarter of 2014

The German economy is gaining momentum. In the first quarter of 2014, the gross domestic product (GDP) rose 0.8% on the fourth quarter of 2013 after adjustment for price, seasonal and calendar variations. The moderate growth rate of last year (+0.4% in the last quarter of 2013) thus has increased. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports, however, that a factor that contributed to the strong growth at the beginning of the year was the extremely mild weather.

The German economy may be the only reason why the EU central bank may avoid cutting interest rates when it meets later this week.[font=Verdana, 'Lucida Grande', Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif]In Germany, things look good - really good for the economy. While larger countries including the UK, Italy and Spain begin to wobble on discussions about an economic slowdown, the German economy is strong and working hard to become even more powerful. The country is one of Europes largest exporters, and because of that faces one of the strongest internal economies in the EU.[font=Verdana, 'Lucida Grande', Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif]The resilience in the economy here is quite unique, and showcases the benefits that the country is likely to have in the coming months. Even as the Euro fluctuates and the other EU countries nearby suffer from a drop in economic confidence (15 Euro Zone states are in this position already), Germany continues to move at full pace ahead.
