Employers in the German private sector paid an average 31.70 euros per hour worked in 2013. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that Germany, together with Finland, ranks seventh within the European Union (EU) in terms of labour cost level. Employers in the German private sector paid 34% more per hour worked than the EU average. However, compared with our neighbour country France, for example, it was a good 9% less. Sweden had the highest labour costs per hour worked (43.00 euros), Bulgaria the lowest (3.70 euros).
