Hi Trust7ers,

Currently I am in Magdeburg, Germany. I completed my Masters in Germany (2010 - 2012) and currently working in Germany for the past 18 months.
Now, my current job contract is not going to be renewed after its expiry (Contract ends in Feb 14).
My Visa also expires along with work contract.

I would like to search for a job in Germany; but when I enquired for visa extension in Ausländerbehörde, they informed me that the Visa is not possible to extend without new job contract and they asked me to go back to India when it expires.

I am paying all taxes (including arbeitlos versicherung) to Germany and finding this response from auslandbehörde as bit harsh.

1. Is there any possibility to extend my Visa for job search?
2. If I am returning to India, is it possible to claim some part of my paid taxes back from German government?

It would be helpful to know the procedure for the above mentioned questions.

Do you have a regular work permit issued under §18 or a permit to look for a job under §16 Abs. 4?

Hi Arianne,

I have regular Job Work Permit.
In fact I am working in Germany for more than a year. (with "Work Permit" Visa)

I completed my Masters in Germany; had Job search visa for few months. Then once I got a job contract, I converted my "Job Search Visa" to "Work Permit Visa".
My Work Permit & Visa is given based on the Job contract.

Please let me know in case of any other details requried.

You will not get back any taxes in this year for sure. You can get taxes  for 2 months paid in 2014, if you decide to leave Germany in Feb. 

You can apply for job search visa.
