Hello Everyone

My Name is Nitesh Khanna. I am working in Frankfurt from 3rd Sep'2012 on a limited Residence Permit (Work Permit) for 3 years i.e. Aufenthaltserlaubnis. I belong to Information Technology (IT) background. When I arrived in Germany in Sep'2012 , I applied for the Work Permit. Few days back, I came to know about the EU Blue Card and based on the details mentioned in the website URL -> http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/EN/EinreiseUndAufenthalt/120731-BlueCard-node.html, I meet all the requirements :

a) I hold a Foreign University Degree in Information Techonology.
b) I have more than 5 years Work Experience in Information Technology background
c) I am already working in Frankfurt as a Information Technology Specialist.
d) My annual Gross Salary is geater than 35000 €.

As per some of the websites, For skilled workers in the fields of mathematics, IT, the natural sciences and engineering as well as for doctors, the threshold is set at just under 35,000 euros.

I discussed this with the guyz at Ausländerbehörde (Ordnungsamt), Frankfurt & the lady their told me that if my Annual Gross Salary is less than 44800€ & i am an IT specialist, I can get a EU Blue card only if my Annual Gross Salary is greater than 35000 Euros & i studied IT from Germany only.

Whereas as per the information on the websites, the educational requirement says , candidate should have a German Degree or comparable foreign Degree.

Kindly confirm if i am meeting all the eligbilty conditions for getting an EU Blue card ?

Nitesh Khanna

As per your post, I guess you earn more than 35000 and less than 44800.  to issue a blue card as you mentioned in your post,
 • Candidate should have a german degree or a Comparable foreign Degree
This comparable forgein degree leaves a grey area for ABH. They might or might not recognise your degree as comparable to german degree. Depends on the case officer and your degree.

So if you could mention your Degree , then the people in the forum can give a better opinion.

Talk with some lawyer. He/She will sort them (ABH) out. A single letter from a lawyer would be better than wasting time with them. It will cost money but it is worth it.

Hi Nitesh,

Here is a useful link to the official German agency that recognises foreign degrees:
http://anabin.kmk.org/no_cache/filter/institutionen.html

You can search for your college/university and check its equivalent in Germany. Per my knowledge, most Indian and foreign universities and engineering degrees are listed in this database. I also hold bachelor's in India and master's abroad and both universities are listed in this database.

If you find your degree listed there then you can take a copy and show it to ABH claiming your degree is officially recognised in Germany, if that's the only hindrance in your BC application.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

Thanks for the information & url Omkar. I was able to search my univeristy on that website.

The only thing which i am not sure is - The lady at Ordnungsamt, Frankfurt told me that for Shortage Occupation like 'IT', one should have a degree from Germany if his/her gross salary is less than 45K euros & greater than 35K euros. And my gross salary is between this range but my degree is from India.

Halo people,

I have gone through various threads in this forum and somehow unable to understand some points or rather advantages related to Blue card.

About myself-Working in germany since sept-2012,satisfy the conditions related to blue card.

If it's ok for you , I will really appreciate if you could please clarify certain points.

1) I understand PR (or NE) and German citizenship are two different things. Is it so? With blue card you can apply for PR after 21 months and then you can apply for citizenship in around 5 yrs. Is my understanding correct?

2) With blue card you are stuck with only your initial employer and can't change company if you feel like doing so in the near future. Is it so? (Considering that the regular work permit gets renewed after three years without any linkage with your previous employer.)

3) Well I am working in Germany since sept-12 on the regular work permit and they say I can apply for NE after aug-2015. And my wife is also going to join me in few days, the spouse visa has been cleared.Does it make sense to apply for blue card now?

4) What documents are required for the blue card.?

Hello Everyone, I need some clarification for applying EU Blue Card. I have joined a German Company on 22th Apr 2013 and will be applying for Blue Card at Foreign Office in frankfurt. I meet all the requirements of EU blue card but there is one gray area which i am worried on. [*]Candidate should have a german degree or a Comparable foreign Degree I have completed my Bachelors of Engineering in computer science and information technology from a state university in india. I have checked my degree and university status in http://anabin.kmk.org/no_cache/filter/hochschulabschluesse.html and it gets listed there as a Diplomagrad(FH). Do i need to consult any lawyer for getting my degree certificate certified as comparable to german degree ? Do reply it asap as i have my interview with foreign office on 30th April. Thanks in Advance Sandeep
