Please help us find answers to the following questions related to Kurzarbeit and Tax Card Status.

Case:
Both husband and wife are working and having the same Tax Card status i.e 4

One of them has started with Kurzarbeit starting May 2009 and hence will be receiving as per the rule 60/67% of the Netto salary as salary for month of May 2009.

Question:
1. Does the partner who is in Kurzarbeit change his / her Tax class status to 5, ie a lower class in order to enable the other partner to derive more money (collectively) ?

2. If yes, can a Tax card change be initiated at May end but dated backwards ie starting May 2009.

3. Since it is not known how long the Kurzarbeit will go on, once the Kurzarbeit period ends, can the Tax Card status be changed back to status 4 after June 2009 etc ?
