Residence in Germany and working in Netherlands

Hi, I am living in Germany Since almost 6 years, Now i got a PhD position in Netherlands. I can stay in Germany legally because of my University collaboration with a German University. I would like to ask while working in Netherlands and having a residence permit in Germany, May i apply after 8 year for German Citizenship ? I will have enough resources to support my self and my family.
