I am a softwared consultant from india & i am working in munich from last 1 year 6 months on a work permit (limited visa).
i would like to know if i can apply for the green card on my own & not through my company.

As for any kind of work permit, the GC hs to be requested by the company you are working in.

Just ask them for one, if you're good enuff, they shouldn't refuse to get you one.
