I did my PhD in Germany and stayed in Germany for 4 years. After finishing my PhD I stayed outside Germany for 4 months. Then I got a job in Germany and came back after 4 months with new visa. So, now my question is that will my previous 4 years will be counted towards getting a German nationality? Is there any specific rules regarding this issue.

Please help me and guide me.
