Hi,
Today I and my wife have received Persönliche Identifikationsnummer letters for Steuern from Bundeszentralamt with unique numbers. I do not understand Deutsch and the letters are in Deutsch.

Is this common for those who have stayed here for long and are paying taxes to German govt and how useful is ti for people like us.

As you don't understand German well, long story short, it's a new system that should identify a person living in Germany relating to his taxes and which is valid for his whole life (which is not the case with a normal tax number), even kids registered here got them now.

Hi,
This is something like security number which will be used by finanzamt and also by different departments.So don´t get surprised if you get one. Even Germans also get this identification number. Please keep this number as safe possible and do not give it to some strangers.
