Residence permit - reg!

Hello,
There has been a series of events going on recently with me and I need some legal help from you. They are:

1.I have valid employment visa till dec 2010 but my job contract is ended and I am looking for a new job.

2.The ansprechpartner at the Rathaus is eager to send me out of Germany as I don't have a job contract inspite of my legal visa status. He insists me to get a job contract soon so as to maintain my residence permit or else my permit will be shortened and cannot stay here.

I have tried to convince him that the procedure of
selection for the job is in process and I be given some time to stay in Germany. But he has given me time only till April 14th and I have to tell him the status of my job contract. Till now I got no job offers and I fear my residence status will be affected.

can anybody help me with this problem to convince the official at the Rathaus so as to retain my residence permit and buy some time for my job application process?

Thanks in advance.

Prabhu:

In some places you get 3 months of grace period to find another job, this entirely depends on the official.
