Hi All,

I am an Indian national and I have been in Germany for 5 years now and am taking up my new job back in Mumbai, India. I have a question about getting a "Transfer of Residence" (TR) back to India. My situation is as follows:

I have been asked by my new employer to goto US for a 6 month period for a training program. My wife has been granted admission to a university in Canada. I would like to avail of a TR to move all my stuff back to India. One of the clauses of getting a TR is that after arriving back in India, the person has to be resident in India for 1 year. The only exceptions are for short visits and that too permission based.

If anyone experienced this scenario before, I would like to ask you:

1. What problems could we face if we availed TR and then I goto US for the training and my wife joins her Master's program?
2. Does the situation, which I mention above, qualify for any exemptions from the customs officials at New Delhi airport in India?
3. Does anyone have any suggestions regards how to tackle this in a better way?

Ideally I can inform my new employer about this limitation, and if the situation is not acceptable, then I would most probably have to give up the job offer. But I would like to knwo if someone has any idea/experience about this kind of situation?
