I was just wondering if GC is still around or not. From the post it looks that it ended with year 2004. But on this Fiday I was in Ausland Behörde office and i asked for the eligibility of GC and the lady told me about the requirement. She gave me no hint if GC is history now. Any idea ?

There is no GC anymore, only workpermit.

Raj GC is over but it is possible to get WP just as easy as with GC because for IT the doors are still wide open.
Actually almost all Dipl.-Ing. stuff is welcome.

Small correction DvD. A friend of mine just got here with new WP. Here are the changes in comparison to GC:

-> He waited more then 2 Months for Arbeitsmarktprüfung / I have waited only 7 days for GC Arbeitsmarktprüfung

-> He's got visa for 3 Years, company binded / I have got 5 years company binded

-> If he changes the company noew, the 2-Months AMC will be done again / When GC changed company no AMC was done again only salary check and job-description check

A friend of mine got also normal WP after 1.1.2005 in IT area. He had a similar experience like your friend.(2 months wait) He was even issued a company bound WP for only 6 months !!! (Because of the probation period)

Without the GC regulation, it is still very well possible to obtain a work permit but it is a more painful process. What you usually get is 6 months/1 year/3 year company bound permit.

I the moment the status is such that the meeting will not be in Munich. But it is good idea to organize some "GC" meeting in Munich.
