Academic degree check for the Blue Card?

Hello all!

I have recently been offered a job in Germany and I would like to apply for the Blue Card. I am confused about the processing of my academic degrees and would appreciate any advice!  Here is my situation:

- I will be a new arrival: I hold a Canadian passport, and have not held a prior German visa
- I will be applying in Berlin (as a Canadian I am allowed to do this)
- The job salary satisfies the Blue Card salary condition
- I have a Bachelors degree from Canada, and a Masters degree from Ireland, both in Marketing
- My job offer is for a Marketing Manager potion, which I believe is an "un-regulated" profession in Germany

My questions are:

1) Do I need to have my degrees 'checked' by the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZaB )? I have found both University institutions in the Anabin database (http://anabin.kmk.org) and both are recognised (H+) by Germany.  Searching for my specific degrees in this database, however, only turned up somewhat partial matches. Are the institutes being recognised by Germany enough in this instance?

2) Do I need to have my degrees professionally translated before I approach the Ausländers office?

Thank you!

This depends on the case worker handing your case. In my knowledge 99% of the blue card cases have directly been processed without checking for non German degrees. I have heard some EU degrees had to go through this procedure.

As long as it is English, no transalation is required.

Good luck!!
