I and my husband hold Niederlassungserlaubnis ( Unlimited Settlement Permit)  since June 2012.Does anyone know after how many years or months of holding this permit can we apply for citizenship

You may take an appointment with Einbürgerungsbüro and check with them when you and your husband will be eligible for citizenship. It depends up on city to city how they deal the application.

Hi,

you need the unlimited residence permission when you apply for citizenship, but all the years you are in Germany will be counted, the years before you got the Niederlassungserlaubnis too!

You have to live in Germany for 8 years, if you can proof that you have done a successful integration course, it can be reduced to 7 years.

And if you are a very important person (a scientist for example) and it would be extraordinary good for Germany to have you as a citizen, one can get it after 6 years. (Do not ask me for details, but I know a few guys who got it after 6 years!)

At the end the tip of 'Basbrem' is very good... check with your local office!
