We have planned to go Austria by car this week-end. This is my first trip to drive across germany border!

I'd appreciate your suggestions, like benzin cost in deutschland and austria, any taxes (I heard one called Vignette), travel hints, etc.

Austria is a beautiful country and Vienna is the best city on the world!
The people are very nice, I have a lot of friends from Austria.

At first good news:
Benzin is ca. 20 cent cheaper than in D

Bad news:
- You need vignette, costs 7.60 euro for 10 days, you can bay it in Bayern on each gasoline station
- if you pass then mountains you have to pay sometimes additional maut ( for example Tauernautobahn – 9.50 euro )
- you need Sicherheitsweste (red vest, like by roadworkers ). Buy it before, don’t buy at the gasoline station, costs the double.
- speedlimit – 130 kmh
- light obligation on autobahn

Is it mandatory and should everyone who travels in the car should have it?

You must have at least one in the car. It is mandatory and the police check it sometimes. Especially if you have a german number. The rules are if you have an accident each person, which stay outside of car, has to wear this vest.
