Hi,

On Phd BAT IIa *full* position, you have health insurance (it is automatically deducted from your sallary), and around 25 days of vacation.

I think that 1050 (net sallary) is normal for half position, but you should better check with somebody who has that one...Btw, is he going to work full or half time?

Hi VP

Well. Surely you have to work 20 or 25 hours a week.

Your medical insurance and your vacation times nobody tells you because is quite obvious. Here in Germany you cannot work without medical insurance and all "gesetzliche" social things (urlaub, medical permises etc.). You, BAT people have also a special law where is described the bonus system (Weihnachtgeld, Urlaubgeld u,s,w,). Is easy to find (sorry, I don't have time!)

Take a look here to see what are asking to the people in your position in other universities

http://staff-www.uni-marburg.de/~sfb395/Personalwesen.html

But as a final comment, don't forget we are now in Germany. Here you can (and should) ask very straightfully and directly and the same answer you will receive. I advice you to ask, no matter how silly can mean your question (you can't even believe the stupidyties I asked before change my job!)

Good luck
