Hi,

I hold Indian citizenship and have been living in Germany since the last 2 and a half years. My wife is German and I came here on a family reunion visa. My Aufenthaltserlaubnis runs out in October this year. When I first went to register myself at the foreign office, I was told by the person there, that I need to live in Germany for 8 years (or 7 years + integration course) in order to be able to apply for citizenship. However, having read a few posts here, I think I can apply for citizenship after 3 years? Is that correct? If yes, how do I handle the situation now?

Also, When should I go for visa extension/citizenship application? Should I wait a couple of months more?
