this is just a short update about the visa/work permit process from my own experiences.

The application process at the Embassy/Consulate did not change against the old law, but the whole process seems to be shorter so far. In the past one could be lucky to hold the visa stamp in hand after 6 weeks (average time) now  4 to 5 weeks is normal.

With the old law the first visa was valid for 3 month, so one has to visit the alien office in Germany to extend the permit very soon. Now the first visa is issued for 12 month!
