Hi Fyrose

Nachpraktikum” is a practical training in the end of your studies, which is obligatory on getting your degree at university. There is a “Vorpraktikum” - a requirement before you begin your studies – a “Zwischenpraktikum” – the most common: a training during your studies – and in special subjects the “nachpraktikum”.

How find an employer or get a visa (for the nachpraktikum!) depends on whether you are still enroled or you have already finished your studies.

In both cases you first have to find an employer and you should be able to communicate in German.

To find an employer you can go to www.arbeitsamt.de → Arbeitssuchende → Praktikumsbörse (in German!)

That is not easy, because the employer has to handle the paperwork.

You are still student (Nachpraktikum) in a non-European country:

-You have to certify your enrolment (they want to know your subject)
-You are 18-35
-Your practical training must be subject-related (the employer has to lay down a training plan)
-The training must not be longer than six months
-You must get a pay of about 560,- €

The employer, which you have already found, has to send your curriculum vitae, the training plan, information about the company and your certification to the ZAV (Bonn), gets after that formulars to fill in and to send back to the ZAV and then gets a Freistellungsbescheinigung (from the ZAV).

Your employer will send the Freistellungsbescheinigung to you and only then you can go to the German embassy/consulate in order to get a visa (within six weeks!). In some countrys you don`t need any visa (you can probably get the information from the embassy in advance).

If you have already finished your studies (Fortbildungspraktikum) in a non-European country, it is for the employer still more difficult to get a Freistellungsbescheinigung.

All that sounds a bit complicated (and the German system is still a bit complicated), but with a little luck, an interesting subject, some German language and a lot of power of endurance you might find an employer.

Good luck!
