My proposed employer in Germany applied for a work permit assurance("green card") for me in December and I got it last week.
I would now like to apply for a visa to get to Germany. In this regard, I have the following very basic questions. Could somebody throw some light on these please ?

(Just incase the procedure is different at each mission in each country; I would be applying for the visa in Chennai, India. )

1. Which is the type of visa that I need to apply for here? (Type D?) Which application form should I therefore submit?

2. How many days does it take to obtain the visa?

3. Do I need originals of my contract with my new employer?(I just have a faxed copy of the contract) Do I also need a health insurance even before I land in Germany and also proof of my proposed place of residence?
