So far I've been doing all tax returns on my own, but last year my scheme of "supporting the parents" failed to work out. I do not know if it is because I moved from Munich to Stuttgart, or because something else changed but it was not nice...

I am financing my father and my younger sister (non EU citizens; without any income at the moment). My mom still works, but her income is not very large.

Is there anybody here who can help me to fill in "Unterhaltshilfe" in tax return for 2008&2009 properly and get some money back?

Second, If I move away from germany for a new job, can I still claim my transportation costs as "Bewerbungskosten"?

I would be very thankful for any advice or recommendation of some tax adviser skilled with expat claims! Please do not hesitate to contact me!!!!

There is an excellent company in Frankfurt that specialises on expact tax file returns. If you can share your email, I am happy to introduce you. My experience have been very good with them although they are bit pricy. I am with them since 2003

Hi,

This is what I got to know from my tax consultant. The fact of supporting parents in NON EU countries is acceptable only:

1. If the parents are older than 65yrs (Actual retirement age in Germany)

2. If they are not older than 65 then they must be suffering from illness that prevents them from working.

Please note that, the fact that the retirement age in another country is less than 65 or that the parents have never worked doesnt matter to the Finanzamt in Germany.
