The way you name your child has not to do with your preferences but with the law of the country you hold your citizenship is.
My our baby was born back in '03, we decided to give her only a firstname and surname, but at the Meldeamt, when we try to apply for her birth certificate, we were told that the country we were from and from which we held the citizenship at that time requires to have a surname and a "sur-surname", because a firstname was not in the law per se. We had to come up with a sur-surname on the spot, to be able to register her.
But when we applied for our German citizenship back in '10, we were told that the German law only allowed a surname, so the sur-surname that we choose back in the days had to be dropped in order to be correct with the law. We actually all dropped our sur-surname.
So do it as the law of your country requires.
